The University of Tennessee-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (UT-ORII) seeks highly qualified research faculty candidates to advance the knowledge, synthesis, and application of Bio-derived composites as part of the Circular Bioeconomy Initiative. Significant progress is needed in synthesis, mechanical and other to achieve the performance of Bio-derived materials to compete with current range of fossil-based products. The Circular Bioeconomy requires that developed biocomposites be recyclable and/or upcycable. The successful candidate is expected to focus on developing recyclable/upcycable bicomposite materials with better properties than currently existing polymer composites to meet society’s sustainability needs.
This position will be associated with UT-ORII’s Circular Bioeconomy Systems (CBS) Convergent Research Initiative (CRI), whose mission is to develop transformative strategies for managing, valorizing, and extending the lifespan of bio-derived materials. The CBS CRI will include ~20 member investigators from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). The position’s faculty appointment will be with UT-ORII at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
CBS research faculty will collaborate on laboratory experiments and reporting, proposal preparation and submission, support existing research projects, and mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Four anchor investigators of the project will provide mentoring and the necessary infrastructure for the hire. Applicants will be considered at all faculty ranks.
